A Prayer To June

Hello, June. I sure have missed your lovely face. Thank you for the ways you always arrive, bearing so many gifts and blessings. The color green, the thick dew on timothy as it reaches towards harvest, the sight of a fawn skipping through tall grass behind his mother as he learns what it is to be a deer, the barn swallows greeting me in the mornings with their cheerful noise, and the nights…the glorious nights of early summer where it seems like everything around me is smiling softly and saying this was a good day, wasn’t it? And I could not agree more.

June, did you know that I am now young again? Not in a literal way of course but in the way that I can no longer turn my hurried and stressed eyes away from that fawn or the timothy grass. I am again getting lost in the wonder of you and of the season that once seemed to belong all to me.

I’m sorry for losing track of you, June. I hope we have many more reunions. You are one of my oldest friends, returning year after year, even throughout my own soul’s undoing. I hope that you can help to continue to heal her. She’s waited a long time, June, and like the fawn she’s just now learning how hope actually works. Can you help us rebuild our castle, dance under the stars and find the things that mean something again? I know it is a lot to ask, but if anyone has such magic, it is you.

Thank you for listening, my dearest June. And as you go about your mysterious and beautiful ways, remember that as much as you adore the world, we adore you too.
