Greetings and Welcome to Hedge & Hearth.

I’m Mej and I was born, raised and reside in the Appalachian Mountains. I’m a dreamer, witch, tree hugger, forest dweller, journal keeper, poet, and lover of deep conversations over dark brew. I’ve been writing regularly since childhood and use that exploration as an outward expression, to gain understanding, and to receive insight from somewhere beyond myself. As a magickal practitioner and a seeker of meaning, I started this collection as a sort of grimoire for my thoughts, musings and emotional meanderings. It has since grown into place where I tend to not only my headspace, but my soul’s own work.
My professional background is rooted in administration, yet at the height of a successful career in municipal public service, I made a conscious decision to abandon many of the things I was taught about what we “should” do, want, and be. This didn’t happen overnight, as I’ve always felt more than a bit out of place within the rigidity of modern existence. And, like many others, I was having difficulty navigating how to maintain simplicity against the opposing forces of what the world has become.
Hedge & Hearth is an idea of service from a more intrinsic perspective. My work includes a micro boarding home for senior horses, where dignity, companionship, and basic care are prioritized. Alongside this, I engage in practices that nurture the undomesticated longing that so many of us experience. These practices include grief casting, soul connection, shadow exploration, spirit-centric healing, and liminal writing. My goal is to create settings where we honor the sacred bonds between humans and animals, the wisdom of slowing down, and the power of intentional ritual. It’s manifesting a space where healing is not rushed, grief is not silenced, and care is not transactional. The ultimate goal is to cultivate meaning through expression and connection.
I hold dual graduate degrees in Public Administration and Parks, Recreation & Tourism and a BSW with a minor in Psychology. I am a Certified End-Of-Life Pet Doula through the University of New England, a Holistic Mindset Coach via IAPCC, and maintain a Reiki Level I Certification through the International Association of Reiki Practitioners. I’ve worked in both support and leadership roles throughout my career in public sector municipal service, have been a magickal practitioner for over three decades and have facilitated individual and group learning sessions, guided discussions and journaling experiences.
I believe that when we honor sorrow as a sacred rite, we hold space for both the tender and the wild. There, we learn that it is within shadow that we become liberated. When we recognize animals as healers, we can integrate their presence and care into ceremonial spaces and our own wisdom. We remember that it is within the threshold moments that we reclaim and reaffirm our own sovereignty.
Blessed Be and thanks for stopping by.
