The Vampire’s Birth

It was the blood that she remembered clearly

Dark, infused with copper, too sticky to forget the currency of men

She lay at one with the land

And under the glistening sky, there was the tide

It caressed sand that had only just been momentarily dry

Then it pulled homeward, into the darkness

And he who thought to claim her, was swallowed by the sea
